The Veiled Rebecca is a white marble statue sculptured by Italian neoclassical sculptor, Giovanni Maria Benzoni in the mid 19th century. The statue depicts Rebecca, the bride of Isaac, whose face is covered in a transparent veil during their wedding. This sculpture represents innocence and purity as Giovanni Benzoni skillfully creates the appearance of a transparent veil, an outstanding artistic creation. The beauty of the statue is the veil, which was sculpted so marvellously that it looks like actual fabric rather than marble.
I saw this statue at the Salar Jung museum in Hyderabad, India and it took me a moment to realise that the veil wasn’t really material. So beautiful. Photo by Syed Hussaini.
